What is Style?
“How to find your style!”
“Finding your personal style!”
I don’t know about you, but I have found myself drawn towards these topics — these catchy topics can draw you in — because we are ALL looking to have a cohesive style. But, WHAT even is style?
By definition, style is a particular way in which something is done, created, or performed; in terms of fashion, style is aesthetically expressing one’s self through their apparel, makeup, and other choices.
One common misconception is that STYLE is the same as FASHION. To me, style is not the same; it does not have to be trendy to be STYLE. Someone with style is true to themselves and their personal style, regardless of trends. The word fashion more refers to trends in my opinion — what is popular among wearers is fashion.
When it comes to your decorating or particular clothing style, to me, style is who you want to be, and what you want to say. To me, style is an art or an expression — I like to view it as a form of storytelling — and while it doesn’t define you, it is a great way to tell others about you before they even know your name.
One thing that I love about style, is that it can be reflected in so many facets of your look. While likely the first consideration when it comes to style is the articles of clothing you wear, one’s style also includes your hair, accessories, makeup, your nails, and even perfume or your personal scent.
For me, I am working towards establishing my own personal style — one that is reflective of me, and filled with things I love; but straying away from mainstream fashion trends more.
Today’s key takeaway: consider how the small elements of your look can be used to convey your own style, and consider your own personal style.
