Style as your personal brand

They always say that first impressions are everything, but have you ever considered how style influences your overall persona?

“What you wear is how you present yourself to the world. Fashion is instant language.” — Miuccia Prada

Especially in today’s age, we are visual people; so much can be said without even speaking because of our visual nature.

I love considering my own personal style as a reflection of who I am. While there is so much more to each of us than what we wear, it is a great communication piece and a way to reflect who we are.

First, it is important to decide what you want to say and communicate about yourself in your personal style. For me, I love neutrals, bohemian influences (such as linen, calico florals, denim), and subtle nods to western and southwestern styles. I want to communicate an effortless yet put-together style and that I enjoy getting dressed each day.

To ensure that each piece in my wardrobe is cohesive and reflects who I am, I am careful to only purchase pieces that fit my personal brand and match the style I want to portray. This is not to say that you can never purchase something out of your style description, because oftentimes — and especially in my case — my style is a blend of bohemian, feminine, and slightly edgy styles. I never feel limited because my style truly tells about who I am and reflects my personal brand!

Lastly, I have style staples — signature looks I can refer back to and wear consistently that achieve my personal style with ease. These are items such as a white, flowy lace dress that can be dressed up or down, worn with a blazer or cowboy boots — yet still give a nod to the message of my personal style at the core. By having these outfit combinations tucked back in your brain, even on days when you feel less inspired, your style will reflect that of your personal brand.
