Pregnancy Essentials - 1st & 2nd Trimester

I am so excited writing this post - it is my first post in quite some time + one I’ve been dreaming of writing for so long (even adding the ‘motherhood’ section to my website had me feeling so grateful to even be in this season!)

Today I wanted to share a little about my current ‘must-haves’ and a little recap of my experience thus far. I’m over halfway through at the time of writing this (I can’t believe it) and it’s just going by SO fast. We’ve been busy decorating the nursery and putting all the things together and I’m so excited for all of that to come together, too. It’s currently still half guest room half nursery but my vision for this little guy’s room is slowly coming to life. :)

First off, let’s recap how things have been so far. The first trimester was a lot more challenging than I expected - I was pretty sick (and still get nauseous if I don’t take my meds every night) and basically surviving off bagels, McDonald’s French fries and biscuits (with strawberry jelly, the important part), and tater tots from Sonic. If you know me, I definitely don’t eat like that at all, so it was just a wild time! I’m grateful now to not be throwing up, but definitely feel the effects if I skip my meds. I’m still SO tired and haven’t found that energy that people talk about during the 2nd trimester, but I’m so grateful to be eating healthy again and trying to get a few workouts in a week. As far as cravings go, I really haven’t really craved anything strange, just fresh foods and I’ve been eating a lot of fruit lately. Other exciting things to note - our little guy moves around like crazy and is so wild in there - it’s so fun to feel him kick and think about him all day long. I finally look pregnant and strangers notice now, which is fun, too. It’s just so crazy to think we’ll have a baby in just a few months!

As far as my favorites go, here are the ‘noteworthy’ and more fun items that I’ve been relying on - aside from my tater tots and nausea meds which were the real MVP’s of the past few months ;)

1) Girlfriend Collective Bike Unitard - this has been one of my main outfit staples. Since it’s SO hot out, I just want to stay cool, and these unitards are so easy to throw on with a button up or jacket over (for the fall time) and some cute sneakers and call it a day. Plus it looks cute on the bump, which I’m trying to take advantage of while I can!

2) Ritual Prenatal - I’ve gone back and forth with which prenatal I’ve been using, but these have been one of them and I’ve really enjoyed them. They have pretty good ingredients and I like that they have iron - I’ve been anemic and I know that’s made me extra tired. I don’t love the lemon flavor, but my other ones taste like grass, so lemon is better than that. ha.

3) Pregnancy Prayer Cards - I’ve really loved these prayer cards; I just got them around 20 weeks, but I have been loving the prompts and verses to pray over our little guy. I can’t believe the Lord has trusted us to raise him and I’ve been just trying to pray my way through this pregnancy!

4) Yeti Mug - I’ve been living out of my Yeti water bottle and this jumbo one to make my iced coffee in. For a long time coffee was REPULSIVE which is totally unlike me, but I have a very particular way I’ve been making it lately that I enjoy, and this mug has been just the best to drink from.

5) Birkenstocks - These have been my go-to this summer, mainly just to be easy and quick to slide on and go. :)

6) Free People Set - this is nothing new, but I wear one of these sets pretty much every day. They are so comfy, but it looks like a sweater on top, so I am always ‘dressed’ if I have a Zoom call for work or need to go somewhere/look presentable. I love these sets!

7) Ilia Skin Tint - I’ve been on a mission to get ready as fast as possible these days, essentially with as little effort as possible and this has been my favorite beauty product lately! I just wear this and a little mascara on the most basic days, but it really evens out my skin and I love that it has SPF in it and is a clean product. The colors are super forgiving as well so it’s way less stressful than picking out a foundation.

8) Linen/Gauze Button down - these have been a part of my pregancy uniform on the daily, along with my unitard mentioned above. I have this shirt in a few different colors and I just throw it on over and it’s easy and cute, but keeps me from getting too hot with how toasty it is here in Texas. Plus, they look cute with leggings or jeans when it cools off.

9) Headbands - I’ve been throwing headbands in my hair a lot, also to help get ready faster. Not to mention I am also kind of growing out my hair, so it’s nice to keep it out of the way but not have it up all the time. I love this cow print one, too!

10) Bumpsuit dress - this was a bit of a splurge but is SO comfy - like truly the most comfy thing aside from pajamas. It looks really cute on and I know I can wear it my entire pregnancy layered with jackets or sweaters in the fall but for now, it is amazing with how hot it is out.

That’s all for now - we scheduled a little “babymoon” weekend getaway to a fun hotel in San Antonio and I can’t wait to lay by the pool and eat chips and salsa for a few days next month; we also are getting some photos done in September and then it will be big prep time for baby! Can’t wait for all that’s to come, and I’m sure I’ll write another little post before he’s here.
