Clean Shampoo and Conditioners

In an effort to clean up all of the products in our home, I began a journey to find a better alternative to the shampoo and conditioner products we had been using. I tried out several options, and I thought I would share my favorites and my personal thoughts on the products I tried!

Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle

This was the first option I tried from Trader Joe’s. This is by far the cheapest option, and one I would definitely repurchase. The Tea Tree essential oils infused in the product made it smell very nice! One thing to note: since it is a cleaner product and doesn’t contain SLS (or sodium lauryl sulfate, an extremely harmful chemical), it doesn’t lather as much, but I found it lathers as you would expect if you shampoo twice - a little tip!

Kristin Ess Daily Cleansing Shampoo and Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner by Kristin Ess was a good find. Although it has a few ingredients that aren’t totally ‘clean’, it is fragrance-free which was a big draw for me. Plus, it is available at Target, so it is more accessible than some other options I wanted to try. Despite being unscented, I still found my hair to feel clean and fresh. This would be a great option if you are sensitive to fragrance.

This option is one I ordered in my monthly wellness box from Young Living. It is convenient in this sense, as I can add it to my monthly box when I notice we are running low. It is lavender scented, so it is very calming and great for sensitive skin or scalps. This one will definitely be a re-purchase for me.

For reference, when I shop for new products to try, I always use EWG Skin Deep to verify the ingredient list for any toxic ingredients or things of concern. They have products that are verified as clean, and rate products and ingredients on a scale of 1-10. It is quite shocking to see many products I used to love as containing some of the most toxic ingredients, but I am grateful to know better and continue to find better products to use in our home!
