How I Use Pinterest for Fashion Inspiration

Chances are, you already use and love Pinterest on a daily basis. But did you know that it’s a great way to inspire and organize your journey to a capsule wardrobe? Here are a few tips on how I use Pinterest to stay inspired and strive for a thoughtful, cohesive wardrobe!

First, I started off by pinning outfits that aligned with the style aspirations I had. This board contained a hodge-podge of different outfits for different seasons, but each aligned with the overall look and feel I desired to incorporate into my own wardrobe.

Once I felt like I had a solid style direction, I made four separate boards for the different seasons: Fall Capsule, Winter Capsule, Spring Capsule, and Summer Capsule. In hindsight, I could have just made two - Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, as Texas has very little weather variation, but you can choose the number based on the seasons where you live!

Once I established each of my boards, I began to take note of common re-occuring pieces that I was drawn to. I made a list of the items I really liked, and began comparing the items to what I had in my own closet, and what I felt like was missing. From there, I made a wishlist for the seasons to come and pieces I would like to find and add to my wardrobe. I kept it simple, only adding 7-10 pieces to my wishlist, that way I wasn’t being too wasteful or spending too much, but it would still be a few fresh pieces for the fall/winter season. By creating a wishlist, you have a direction or road map of where you want to go with your style, and it allows you to budget for these items.

After this - I might do a clean out and get rid of a few pieces that are outdated, don’t coordinate with the desired style, don’t fit, etc. This will keep your closet from being too cluttered and allow for space for the few items on your wishlist!

Do keep in mind that this is a process; creating an intentional wardrobe takes time - and intentionality - and is most curated when done carefully!

I hope these tips were helpful in using Pinterest for style and fashion inspiration.
